Fried Green Tomatoes

You read the book and saw the movie- now see what all the fuss is about! Fried green tomatoes are traditionally made from tomatoes that didn’t ripen before first frost..

  • 3 or 4 medium size green tomatoes, washed, cored, and sliced (do not peel)
  • Corn meal, seasoned to taste with salt and pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk

Grease a skillet with vegetable shortening and heat over medium heat.
Beat the egg and add to milk. the milk.
Dip each tomato in the milk/egg mixture and then roll in the corn meal to givea thin coating of cornmeal.
Place battered tomato slices in the pre-heated skillet. Brown on each side. Season to taste with more salt and pepper if desired.

Serve hot.
