Buttermilk pie is a custard pie that came to the Southern table by way of England, where similar milk and egg custards date back to Medieval times.
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
3 teaspoons flour
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pastry for 9 inch single crust pie
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a 4-quart mixing bowl using a wire whisk, beat all ingredients together until smooth. Pour into pie shell and bake until filling is golden, about 45 to 50 minutes.
